"I will take the opportunity here to say the last word on all this."

Actually, no, you won't. It's my blog. I allowed you to comment again. Usually, I let the deluded have the last word, but I'm making a special exception just for you. And just for the record, I read the roadmap of life quite well and am considered successful, although that's really none of your concern, nor did I attack Mr. Gregg personally.

I feel sorry for people who choose to follow Mr. Gregg's substandard example. Yes, it's his free speech "right" to put up the sign. Does it make it wise? No. Useful? No. Putting up a McCain sign would have just as easily made the point, without an attempt to denigrate another candidate.

I live in the South too, but we have manners here. All Mr. Gregg has done with his weak attempt at humor is a) cause State Farm to no doubt question the man's judgment (You think this won't be in his personnel file?) and b) perpetuate the stereotypes about Southerners as being ignorant.

I believe you have quite the surprise coming in November. With every passing day, John McSame appears less and less suited for the job. Our country can ill afford another four years of George Bush behavior. On that point only, I agree: May the best man win.

To Pajamadeen,

I will take the opportunity here to say the last word on all this. Bud Gregg is extremely successful at what he does, lives in a very nice home and by all standards most would consider him "wealthy" and well respected in the community and his company. I'd say when it comes to one's ability to "read the roadmaps of life" you and others could only hope to "read" as well as Bud.

It is a shame what started out as something intended to be funny and was good natured got thrown out-of-whack by literally a few liberal extremist, such as yourself, who simply do not have the ability to respect the First Amendment constitutional rights of others - unless of course it's a comment in favor of Obama. Some have raised an excellent question if such a response would have happened if Bud's sign had implicated John McCain? I seriously doubt it. Thus we now have a double standard in this country when it comes to the First Amendment.

Also, you should google the Beaumont real esate broker to read articles about his putting up a sign with Bud's quote and his crediting a Mandeville, La. State Farm agent for giving him the idea.

As for the class of friends I choose to associate with...I consider myself to be in excellent company. You should be so lucky
And one last note...obviously, my comments posted in the pre-dawn hours of the morning after my being up over 24 hours - and not having a dictionary by my side - did not fail to get its point through to you.

Good luck to you and may the best man win in November.

"Gregg immediately informed him the sign had already been taken down the prior day. The exec responded by thanking him and promptly hanging up..."

And Gregg thinks that's a good sign, that the exec promptly hung up? Gregg needs some help reading the roadmap of life.

"The truth behind the sign coming down has to do with threats made to Gregg and his office, obviously from angry Obama supporters."

What kind of threats?

"Gregg’s sign has encouraged other around the country to immulate [sic] his action by putting up their own sign with the same quote."

You need a better class of friends. And a dictionary.

Regarding the anti Obama sign by State Farm agent Bud Gregg in Mandeville, Louisiana. As it turns out no one, meaning higher-up execs in Illinois ever requested to Gregg to take down the sign. There has been some speculation there was going to, but upon being contacted on July 3rd by a State Farm exec inquiring about the sign, Gregg immediately informed him the sign had already been taken down the prior day. The exec responded by thanking him and promptly hanging up - the conversation lasted only seconds, according to Gregg.

The truth behind the sign coming down has to do with threats made to Gregg and his office, obviously from angry Obama supporters. Gregg explained that the sign's purpose was to make a humorous point about Obama's published tax plan. Gregg says he thought the sign was good natured and he got countless calls from people approving of the sign saying the got a good laugh out of it. But when the threats came, that changed everything. Gregg said he could not take the chance since he has two female employees who are often working in the office alone while he is out on business.

While Bud Gregg's sign has been taken down, he is searching for a commerical billboard to resurrect it, which will clearly state it is paid for by him. As it turns out, Gregg's sign has encouraged other around the country to immulate his action by putting up their own sign with the same quote.

I am knowledgeable of these events because I'm a good friend and client of Bud's and was the person who first took the photo and emailed it to others. I never realized the reaction it would cause, but I'm proud of it. My white Toyota 4-Runner behind the sign got in the picture.
