Actor John Travolta’s only son, Jett, 16, has died suddenly while on a family vacation in the Bahamas, according to Michael Ossi, the family’s lawyer. The teenager suffered a seizure while at the family’s vacation home at the Old Bahama Bay Hotel on Grand Bahama Island. Travolta owns several beachfront units at the Old Bahama. Attempts to revive Jett Travolta were unsuccessful, and he was pronounced dead this morning at Rand Memorial Hospital in Freeport, Grand Bahama.
A police spokesperson in Nassau, Loretta Mackey, said that Jett died after he fell and struck his head on a bathtub during a seizure. Jett had a history of seizures. According to a police report by Basil V. Rahming, Chief Superintendent of the Royal Bahamas Police Department on Grand Bahama Island, the teen was last seen going into a bathroom in the Travolta suite sometime yesterday. At 10 AM local time today, the body was discovered by caretaker Jeff Michael Kathrein. There have been reports that the Travolta teen was autistic, although John Travolta has said that his son suffered from Kawasaki syndrome, an immunological condition that can lead to heart disease.
Jett Travolta was the oldest child of John Travolta, star of such movies as Grease, Pulp Fiction, Saturday Night Fever and Urban Cowboy. John Travolta, an accomplished aviator, persuaded wife Kelly Preston to name their son Jett in honor of Travolta’s love of flying. The couple also has an eight-year-old daughter, Ella Bleu. While Ella Bleu reportedly has an interest in acting, son Jett was more of an outdoorsman and sports enthusiast. The Encino, California-based family arrived in the Bahamas on December 30 on a private jet.
An autopsy will be conducted to determine the exact cause of death. Jett Travolta’s body will be transferred to Restview Memorial Mortuary and Crematorium in the Bahamas on Monday.
